Our events!

  • La Jolla's First Annual International Festival

January 29, 2022. Global Milestone partnered with their local library and hosted the town’s first annual international festival. Lasting almost an entire day, students set up booths with creative informational posterboards, traditional family heirlooms representative of their culture, and related books for potential check-outs. Participants walked around the community room with a handmade passport provided by the library, receiving a stamp after visiting each booth. One mother of two toddlers commented, “I feel like we had just traveled around the world! This was a great opportunity to truly experience something we had lost during the pandemic.”

  • La Jolla Goes to Mexico!

November 12, 2021. Global Milestone hosted an open discussion involving LatinX students/parents and the La Jolla families about their personal experiences with El Día de Los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. They focused on discussing how the meanings behind this celebration and how Covid-19 had impacted their traditions. In addition to more than 20 volunteers, GMC taught about the culture surrounding the celebration and guided more than 40 attendees through the process of making Los Flores de Papel (paper flowers) and decorating Las Calaveras (sugar skulls). With this workshop, volunteers facilitated cultural exchange through an educational simulation of a travel experience to Mexico, honoring the festivity of tradition through Covid-19.

  • Pitch Your Passion

After winning 1st place in the Pitch Your Passion Contest initiated by the La Jolla Riford Library, Global Milestone began a close partnership with the library systems of San Diego. With many of our members also involved in the library’s Teen Council, GMC prioritizes local community impact and is always on the lookout for ways to support and help out.
